Yes, Adele is undergoing surgery on her vocal chords and has canceled the rest of her 2011 tour – but it’s not because she has throat cancer, as a flurry of rumors have suggested.
Following the announcement that Adele would undergo an operation to repair a damaged vocal chord, rumors ran rampant on Twitter about the 23-year-old British singing sensation possibly having a serious disease.
Her rep denied the allegations to People Magazine saying:
“We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord. All reports regarding any other condition are 100% false.”
A statement on Adele’s website a few days ago read: “It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011.”
It explained that “a full recovery is expected” after the medical procedure, adding that the star will have to “rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments”.
Adele was previously forced to cancel her tour of the US arranged for this month after doctors told her she needed more time to recover from illness.
She had been scheduled to play dates in New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and Texas throughout October.
“I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or i risk damaging my voice forever,” Adele blogged to her fans. “I have great confidence in believing you know how much this upsets me, how seriously i take it and how truly devastated and annoyed I am by this.”
