Comedian, actor and producer Adam Sandler has signed a deal with Netflix to produce and star in four Netflix-only original movies, with the first likely to be available for streaming some time in 2015.

The Adam Sandler Netflix deal includes only movies produced by Sandler’s own production company, Happy Madison Productions, and does not include his current projects, according to MSN . Two Adam Sandler movies — Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children and The Cobbler — premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. He’s also currently working on Pixels , due July 2015.

Throughout his career, Adam Sandler’s movies have grossed over $3 billion worldwide. Some of his movies are considered classics, such as Billy Madison , Happy Gilmore , and 50 First Dates . Recently, however, Sandler has released a series of commercial and critical failures, including Blended and Grown Ups 2 .
Still, Netflix’s Content Officer Ted Sarandos still believes in Adam Sandler, saying via Salon that Adam Sandler’s movies are consistent moneymakers, and are perfect for Netflix.
“People love Adam’s films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages — everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line — not just in the U.S. but all over the world.”
The Adam Sandler Netflix deal is the second major bit of Netflix content news to come out this week. On Tuesday, according to this Inquisitr report, Netflix announced that the long-awaited sequel to 2000 martial arts classic Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon will be available for streaming on the same day that it hits theaters — a move that has theater owners threatening not to screen the film.
Originally begun as a DVD-by-mail service, Netflix has expanded into streaming-only original content that includes the acclaimed TV series House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black .
As of this post, it is unclear what types of movies the Adam Sandler Netflix deal will include; Sandler is mostly known for his comedies, but he has ventured into drama as well.
