ABC News’ World News Now co-anchor Dan Kloeffler was reporting about Star Trek star Zach Quinto who recently came out of the closet when the anchor decided to reveal to his 3:00am audience that he’s also gay.
Writing on his blog Kloeffler said:
“Kind of a big moment for me while filling in on World News Now,” while he added, “which is by far the most fun you can legally have at 3:00 in the morning!”
The former NBC News staffer and MSNBC host had never told his viewers about his sexual orientation but he says his family, friends and co-workers have known about his sexual preference for years.
Kloeffler went on to write:
“In fact, an old boyfriend–now best friend–has always given me a hard time about not doing so,” while adding, “But for the same reason that Zach decided to come out, I too, no longer wanted to hide this part of my life.
“There have been too many tragic endings and too many cases of bullying because of intolerance,” he continued. “As a kid I wanted someone to look up to, someone that could relate to the feelings I was having. Most of all, I wanted to know that it would get better.”
Kloeffler has asked that he doesn’t “become the story” but at the same time he wants to stand beside his fellow gay men.
Are you surprised that Dan Kloeffler came out on the air so suddenly? It’s fitting that he suddenly announced that he’s gay because that’s basically what Zach Quinto did when he decided to abruptly come out following the teen suicide of a bullied gay boy.
