Sydney Sweeney, no stranger to controversies, recently opened up on the ‘MAGA Barbie’ tag that netizens often use for her online. The actress, who claims to be secretive about her political ideology, was asked by Cosmopolitan magazine in an interview, “There is a charged nickname that has stuck to you on social media – ‘MAGA Barbie’. How do you understand this label, given that you’ve been private about your politics?”
Sydney Sweeney, who features in a risqué cover for the magazine, said, “I’ve never been here to talk about politics. I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of.”
The Euphoria star maintained that she has no control over the roles that people assign her, adding, “And I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn. But it’s somebody else assigning something to me, and I can’t control that.”
When asked during the interview, “You don’t speak to your fans directly about your political beliefs,” the actress said, “No. I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts. I’m not here to speak on politics. That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into. It’s not why I became who I am. I became an actor because I like to tell stories, but I don’t believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another.”
Sydney Sweeney occupied a spot on the list of trends all week after she launched her own lingerie brand, SYRN, and as a part of the promotional duties, she covered the iconic Hollywood sign in Los Angeles with bras from her brand. Sweeney’s unconventional promotional strategy was slammed by many netizens online.
Besides the ‘MAGA Barbie’ label, Sydney Sweeney’s style has previously drawn comparisons to FOX News reporters and Republicans, especially the outfit she wore on The Tonight Show during her film The Housemaid’s promotions last year. It was the final argument some Instagram followers needed to be convinced that Fox News journalists and some MAGA personalities have rubbed off on her, sartorially.

Sydney Sweeney, who featured in multiple box office debacles last year, remained in headlines for her controversial American Eagle ad, where the 28-year-old said, “My jeans are blue,” emphasizing how genes “often determine traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color.”
After the ad’s release last year, US President Donald Trump and his close-knit circle went on to praise her. “Oh, now I love her ad. You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s one I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic,” Trump said.

That’s not it, Trump went on to praise Sweeney and shade Taylor Swift in a long Truth Social post. “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em, Sydney,” he wrote.
Sydney Sweeney also found a fan in Vice President JD Vance. “My political advice to the Democrats is: continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive that they’re a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy. So, you have a pretty girl doing a jeans ad, and they can’t help but freak out. It reveals a lot more about them than it does us,” Vance said on a podcast.
