Katie Miller and Senator Ileana Garcia are locking horns after Garcia claimed on Tuesday that Miller’s husband, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, is pushing reckless immigration policies that could cost Republicans the midterms. ICE is already causing massive chaos in the U.S., and the deaths of two American citizens in Minnesota during encounters with ICE agents have further escalated tensions.
Garcia’s comments came in response to the recent incidents happening because of Miller’s aggressive mass deportation efforts, but his wife seemed keen on defending him, which led to the two women feuding publicly.
It should be noted here that Katie Miller had previously served as a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson and White House aide during Donald Trump’s first term as the president. She later left government service and became a conservative podcaster. Writing on X, Miller attacked Garcia, saying, “Ileana was fired from DHS in Trump’s first term because she failed to show up to work.”

Garcia then hit back, as she shared Miller’s post with the caption, “@KatieMiller Invite me to your podcast so we can have a candid discussion about what truly transpired and how you labeled your then-boyfriend a racist when you were upset that he treated you poorly and me as a mere token Hispanic for the administration. Let’s discuss who was responsible for the leaks in the White House, and how you helped carve the floor out from under then-Secretary Kirsten Nielsen.”
Garcia’s words made it clear that she was referring to Stephen Miller as he was not yet married to Katie then, and the two were dating. Moreover, Garcia also claimed that Katie had accused Stephen of being a racist, suggesting she was aware of his views at the time.
Garcia was DHS’s first female Hispanic deputy press secretary, which tasked her with defending Trump’s controversial immigration policies and agenda to Latinos during his first term. She worked under Kirstjen Nielsen, who worked as Homeland Security secretary from 2017 to 2019 under the Trump administration and looked after his family separation policy.
However, Nielsen was forced to quit in 2019 because of her clash with Trump and Stephen Miller, who happened to be the President’s top immigration adviser back then. As a former Trump official told the Daily Beast, “Miller thought Nielsen was a soft-on-the-border Bushy, and she thought he was an egomaniacal lunatic who hated brown people. Needless to say, that made for awkward moments in the Oval [Office] and Cabinet Room.”
Florida Republican state senator and “Latinas for Trump” co-founder Ileana Garcia says the GOP is very likely lose the midterm elections if the WH does not rethink its harsh immigration enforcement tactics.

Nielsen had also openly wondered if Stephen bad-mouthed her in front of the President since he did not consider her strong enough for the role. During Trump’s second term, Stephen has a more public-facing role, and he has been seen ranting against Democrats and providing some very strong opinions about immigrants on television.
His aggressive views do align with the now DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, but as Garcia pointed out, this ruthlessness might ultimately negatively affect the Republicans during the midterm elections.
Now that Katie Miller has come forward to bash Garcia for her comments, it would be interesting to see if Stephen himself has something to add to this and if he addresses Garcia’s claim of Katie calling him a racist back then.
