Mega Man is headed to the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

The Blue Bomber has remained a fan favorite since his early 8-bit adventures on the NES. Nintendo announced at E3 2013 that Dr. Wiley’s archenemy will be joining the cast of the next Super Smash Bros. game.

The trailer for the upcoming brawler features Mega Man and his trusty dog Rush. IGN reports the little blue hero also comes equipped with his Mega Buster and a handful of Robot Master abilities. Hard Knuckle, Slash Claw, Gut’s Man’s strength, Flame Man’s power, Metal Blade are just a few of the abilities on-display.

As someone who spent hours upon hours battling his way through several of Mega Man’s adventures, this writer is particularly thrilled about his addition to the Super Smash Bros. franchise. You can check out the trailer for Nintendo’s latest offering below.

Mega Man isn’t the only character players will be able to control in the new Super Smash Bros. . Also included in the lineup are Mario, Samus Aran, Fox McCloud, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Pit, Bowser, and Princess Peach. Stages in the game are pulled from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks , Twilight Princess , Skyward Sword , and Dr. Wiley’s level from Mega Man .

According to Siliconera , players will also be able to battle their friends as a villager from Animal Crossing . Although it’s a little strange to see a character from this passive game throw down against the likes of Mega Man, that’s actually part of the appeal of the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

Like most games unveiled during E3 2013, Nintendo’s brawler doesn’t have a specific release date just yet. However, the title is expected to arrive for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS at some point during 2014. Start saving your pennies now.

Are you excited that Mega Man is coming to the Super Smash Bros. franchise? Do you plan to pick up a copy of the game when it drops next year?
