Robin Quivers credited her vegan diet with helping her beat cancer.
Quivers, who co-hosts The Howard Stern show, announced in May 2012 that she needed to have surgery to remove a tumor from her bladder. During her illness, she continued to provide commentary from home via an ISDN line.
On September 9, the 61-year-old revealed that she had been battling endometrial cancer for the last year. Stern told listeners he “thought she was a goner” and that he was “freaking out” because he didn’t know what was happening with his longtime partner.
After 17 months away from the studio, Quivers returned on October 2 . Stern became emotional, telling her, “I could never be without you again.” The shock jock added, “Seriously, I’ve been praying for this day and I’m happy that you’re here, and it makes me very, very happy.”
Robin Quivers told NBC News the day after her return to The Howard Stern Show that she had “been declared cancer-free for about three or four months now” and that she recovered at home after her treatment.
Quivers announced her new book, The Vegucation of Robin , on The Dr. Oz Show Monday, and said that she lost 60 pounds by going vegan. She also said she has been “overwhelmed” by people’s reaction at hearing that she is now cancer-free.
On The Wendy Williams Show Tuesday, Robin Quivers explained that she found out she had cancer because she felt very tired, but she didn’t think much of it. But when she noticed she was having trouble “passing water,” she went to the hospital, where an X-ray showed that she had a mass in her pelvis. She said she felt let down by her body and that she tried to avoid everything that she could.
“The beautiful thing was, because I was so healthy, this didn’t kill me,” she said.
Robin Quivers also said that, as soon as she told Howard Stern about her diagnosis, he was with her the whole time. He had also said that he would stop doing the show if Quivers was unable to come back.
