Howard Stern Gets Emotional When Robin Quivers Returns After Cancer Fight

Howard Stern has his on-air partner back in the studio, and the normally raunchy talk show host was unusually emotional.

On Wednesday he got his partner Robin Quivers back after her 17-month battle with cancer. Quivers had been quiet about her diagnosis and treatment, and had already rejoined the show from a home studio.

But when she was finally able to get back in the studio with Howard Stern, the host was grateful.

“I could never be without you again,” Stern told Quivers during his broadcast on SiriusXM Radio. “Seriously, I’ve been praying for this day and I’m happy that you’re here, and it makes me very, very happy.”

Quivers has since talked about her treatment for a cancerous tumor in her bladder, which she treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

Speaking about the diagnosis last month, Howard Stern said he was not sure if his friend would pull through.

“I gotta be honest, I thought she was a goner,” he said to his radio audience in September. “I’ll tell you how serious this was: I was already making funeral arrangements. Not to make light of this situation — I didn’t know what was going on. I was freaking out,”

On Wednesday’s show, Howard admitted that he had been devastated by the illness that struck his longtime radio partner and friend.

“You know what, honestly, I did not think this day would come… I was very, very depressed over your illness. I wasn’t sure what the outcome was going to be,” Stern said. “There was a time I really did think I was going to lose you permanently. And I’ll tell you what, this is a pretty remarkable day, that you are here triumphant and cured. I never would have predicted this.”

Howard Stern and Robin Quivers will likely be around for a lot longer. Though Stern said he plans to leave Sirius XM at the end of his 2015 contract, he said he wants to start his own media empire and would bring Quivers along.
