Trouble always seems to follow Gwyneth Paltrow around these days. Apparently several people weren’t exactly thrilled with her appearance at a recent book event in the Hamptons.
The Iron Man 3 star was in attendance to sign copies of her new cookbook It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great. Although fans lined up to get a glimpse of the actress, not everyone was thrilled with her appearance.
Other authors who were at the East Hampton Library’s Authors Night on Saturday didn’t take kindly to the way Gwyneth Paltrow “hijacked” the event . Not only were her kids and husband wandering around, she also had quite a few bodyguards hanging around to keep the peace.
“Author’s night at East Hampton Library highjacked by movie stars with ghost-written cookbooks,” event host Jay McInerney posted on Twitter. However, he wasn’t the only one who had a problem with the actress.
Author Christina Oxenberg complained on her blog about having to sit next to Paltrow during the event. When fans of the actress “blocked her view of the whole world,” she decided to strike back by building a plate of sloppy hamburgers at the food table.
When Oxenberg attempted to return to her table at the event, Gwyneth Paltrow’s bodyguards prevented her from sitting down. Here’s how she described the tense exchange :
Gwyneth’s bodyguards blocked my re-entry despite my assurance I was a just an author and pointing at my name tag, ‘No!’ they growled, body blocking me. So I was forced to crawl under the table. And there I sat with my meat products, wafting the excellent smells toward my sleek vegan neighbor.
Although Paltrow’s appearance at the event caused the biggest stink among her fellow authors, apparently they didn’t have any trouble with the other celebrities who showed up. Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, Alec Baldwin, and Jennifer Lopez were also spotted at the event.
