Bunnell, Florida — In one of the strangest pieces of news you’ll probably read today, an intoxicated horseman was arrested Monday after leading police on a half-hour chase through a northeast Florida town.

Flaglerlive.com reports that Charles Larkin Cowart, 29, was arrested in Bunnell, Florida Monday afternoon on several charges, including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest without violence, aggravated fleeing and eluding and cruelty to animals.

CBS News notes that authorities responded to a report of an “intoxicated male riding a horse” and found Cowart riding over railroad tracks around 4:15pm Monday afternoon. He told officers he was headed to his grandmother’s house and ignored orders to get off the horse. He took off and police chased him for more than a half-hour.

According to Fox News , police kept their emergency lights on, but did not use their sirens to prevent the horse from being frightened and potentially making the situation worse.

Cowart eventually fell off the horse and tried to run into nearby woods but was later found by police and arrested, deputies said.

Cowart was being held on $7,000 bond. After the incident, the horse returned to Cowart’s family and is doing fine, police added.

Oddly enough, Cowart’s drunken horseback incident wasn’t the first of its kind this month.

On September 18, police in Kentucky arrested a 55-year-old man and charged him with DUI after he allegedly went on an intoxicated joy ride via horseback after his son’s birthday party.
