Jake Gyllenhaal’s Major Weight Loss For ‘Nightcrawler Movie’

Jake Gyllenhaal has been extremely busy. He’s been promoting his new film Prisoners, and now the End of Watch actor is on to the next project. Gyllenhaal started filming Nightcrawler, and appears to be losing himself, literally, as he’s been pictured looking extremely gaunt.

Pictured on set, Gyllenhaal’s clothes are hanging, and aren’t at all form-fitting in the way we’re used to see the lean actor wear clothes. This dramatic weight loss is for his new film Nightcrawler. In Nightcrawler, the slimmed down Gyllenhaal plays a freelance reporter who discovers an underground world of crime journalism.

Although his dramatic weight loss hasn’t been confirmed, a picture says a thousand words, as Gyllenhaal is looking rail, and his body swimming in his grey slacks and white shirt. Gyllenhaal has also decided to grow out his hair for the role too.

Jake Gyllenhaal joins other acclaimed actors who have dramatically lost weight for a role. Of course we all know that Christian Bale lost a whopping 63 pounds to play an insomniac in The Machinist. This year both Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto followed in suit by losing weight for Dallas Buyers Club as they played HIV victims. McConaughey lost 47 pounds while Jared Leto lost 30 pounds.

This isn’t the first time Jake Gyllenhaal changed his body for a role. For Prince of Persia, Gyllenhaal underwent a significant weight gain in muscles for the role. During an interview with Moviefone, Gyllenhaal discussed the weight gain for the role, having said:

“There was nothing hard about it, man, I was paid to get in shape. The hardest thing I think was being able to get flexible, because acrobatics and stuff like that take a real flexibility…There were a lot of times it was inhibiting because normally, if you’re a gymnast, you wouldn’t have huge, big arms.”
