Oh, Hayden Panettiere… is it not enough to drop engagement news and shock your hosts/audience?
If you’re a fan of Hayden Panettiere (or Nashville), you probably already know the young star is set to wed — and that boxer fiance Wladimir Klitschko and the actress have made plans officially to tie the knot.
Hayden, 24, has been dating boxer Klitschko, 37, for several years. The pair met in 2009, and have had a reportedly on an off relationship since they began dating.
But it wasn’t Panettiere’s engagement news she chose to lead with during a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael. As if a pending wedding wasn’t enough of a big reveal, Hayden came onto the stage with an even more attention-grabbing thing.
Knowing host Michael Strahan is terrified of snakes, the starlet wore a boa… constrictor.
Still, the phobia run-in couldn’t sway the pair from grilling Hayden about the other thing she wore, a rock on her engagement finger.
Kelly Ripa spotted it first, and chatted Panettiere up by asking about her new bit of bling — the host probed:
“I’m sort of distracted, not just by the snake, but there’s a very large diamond ring on your ring finger.”
Panettiere didn’t initially respond, first saying the ring “might be,” before adding, “… I mean, I think it speaks for itself.”
“I’m not sure if you want to announce anything … Does that signify anything? Is that a promise of something?”
Still, Hayden didn’t give up the goods — which, considering the fact she could have left the ring on her dressing room table is kind of a pain in the neck. Just spit it out already!
Panettiere wasn’t spitting, so Ripa pressed:
“Are you engaged?”
Finally, Hayden admitted her engagement to the on-again, off-again love interest — of whom she once told Glamour:
“It’s like the 2.0 version… I’ve always had great relationships and stayed really good friends with the guys I’ve dated. It blows my mind sometimes that us getting together has gotten so much attention. It’s like, Really? This is breaking news?”
Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko have yet to pick a date for their big day.
