Goldie Hawn Attends amfAR Aids Charity Gala In Rio

Goldie Hawn, supermodel Linda Evangelista, and fashion designer Kenneth Cole, were among those who attended a lavish Aids research charity gala this week in Rio de Janeiro.

The event, which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for AIDS research and prevention, was put on by international non-profit organization amfAR. The organization hosts some of the world’s biggest fundraising events which are known as much for their glitz and glamor as their ability to make money. The organizations annual dinner at the Cannes Film Festival has become a who’s who of Hollywood’s heavy weight hitters.

While attending the event Goldie Hawn had nothing but praise for the gala and amfAR. Hawn called the residentd of Rio “so kind and wonderful” before promising to return in the near future.

Speaking about the mission of the gala Hawn added, “It’s great to help and it’s great to have fun.” The famed actress then joked that attendees needed to drink more Champagne in order to really get the generosity flowing.

One of the biggest prizes of the night was a trip for two to a French chateau owned by the family behind Moet & Chandon Champagne. That prize includes a visit to the French Open, and a gold-leaf covered magnum of bubbly. The package sold for $30,000.

For $34,000 one lucky bidder took home a sepia print by Romanian-born photographer Roberto Dutesco. In the meantime a piece by Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto fetched $35,000.

The most sought after prizes of the night were several high-priced pairs of jewelry. Brazilian designer Carla Amorim presented a pair of hoop earrings with more than eight carats worth of emeralds which sold for $30,000, while a pair of Jack Vartanian diamond studs with four carats sold for $35,000.

The organizers at amfAR have not yet revealed how much the gala earned but it is reported to be around $1 million.

We don’t know at this time if Goldie Hawn purchased anything from the amfAR auction.
