Monster Truck Hits Crowd In Mexico: Was Alcohol Involved?

A Monster Truck launched into the crown at the “Extreme Aeroshow” in Chihuahua, Mexico. At least eight people were killed and dozens injured in the tragic accident.

Eyewitnesses said they saw the driver hit his head on the inside of the driver’s cab, sending the vehicle into the crowd on the grandstand. Jesus Manuel Ibarra, who was in the crowd at the time of the accident said: “I fell over, and when I turned around I saw the tire very close. It hit me and threw me to the other side.”

Among the dead was at least one child and 46 people remain hospitilized on Sunday following the accident. A number of local hospitals have made appeals for people to come forward to donate blood.

The Governor of Chihuahua, Cesar Duarte Juarez, who announced a three day mourning period in Mexico said that following the crash alcohol was detected on the breath of the monster truck driver. He added that it is not clear at this time what levels of alcohol the driver had consumed.

Daniel Dominguez, another spectator at the show, said: “The driver hit his head and his helmet flew off. The truck came directly at where we were.”

Dominguez’s family were also injured when the monster truck hit the crowd. His mother was treated for minor injuries while his 11-year-old sister underwent surgery to her legs.

Many of the injured are still being treating in hospital,. The authorities in Mexico have opened a full investigation into the incident to find out what went wrong and what caused the monster truck to hit the crowd.

If it does transpire that the driver was drunk at the time of the crash, criminal proceedings will be brought against him and he will face even more serious charges.

The tragedy is unprecedented in the history of Mexico and questions have now also been raised about the safety precautions taken by the event organizers to avoid such an eventuality.
