Miriam Carey: Captiol Shooting Suspect’s Sister Comes To Her Defense [Video]

Miriam Carey, the woman at the center of the Capitol shooting, is getting a passionate defense from her sister.

For the first time since the incident that cost Carey her life, a family member is coming to her defense.

The woman, who allegedly suffered from post-partum depression, a common condition in new moms, topped with psychosis, went on a speeding rampage which ended up with a police chase and subsequent death of the woman at the hands of Capitol police.

Carey, 34, from Stanford, Connecticut, was a loving mother with dreams of becoming a dentist and teacher, and had no political agenda, her sister Valerie tells ABC News.

“She had no political agenda. She didn’t hate her country. She wasn’t a terrorist,” Amy Carey Jones, a registered nurse, told ABC News. “She was on medication.”

Police didn’t find any weapons in the car and the chase that resulted in Miriam Carey’s death has lead some to question whether authorities handled the situation properly.

“Officers had enough time to assess the occupants of the vehicle,” said Carey, who happens to be a retired NYPD sergeant. “They actually not only put someone at harm’s way, but they took someone’s life.”

Carey’s emotional problems date back to 2012, according to ABC, which cites sources saying police were called last year, on two separate occasions, by the woman’s boyfriend, Eric Francis, 54 and father of her child, who at the time stated she was “delusional, acting irrationally, and putting her infant daughter in danger.”

The sources say that Miriam Carey allegedly said President Obama had put Stamford on lockdown and had arranged to have her home electronically monitored and her life broadcast on television.

Sources add Carey believed she was the “prophet of Stamford” and was capable of communicating with the President.

Police handcuffed Carey and recommended her for a thorough mental evaluation.

According to sources, Miriam Carey had a family history with schizophrenia and was taking medication for a mental illness.

Francis’ second call came in December 2012 when he stated to police, his girlfriend was off her medication and acting erratically.

In January 2013, a social worker met with both Eric Francis and Miriam Carey and the man said she was “100 percent back to normal.” Carey said she was diagnosed with post-partum depression, but was being treated, a source told ABC.
