Sam’s Club Waives Membership Fees For Military Members During Government Shutdown

Sam’s Club has announced that it will be waiving membership requirements for military members during the government shutdown.

According to The Baltimore Sun, military personnel, retirees, and their families will all have their membership fees waived during the shutdown.

WIVB reported that during the shutdown, domestic commissaries on military bases are closed, and until they are reopened, Sam’s Club will welcome active and retired military members to shop at their stores without paying for memberships.

Sam’s Club spokesperson, Carrie Moore, released the following statement:

“On Wednesday morning, dozens of domestic commissaries located on military bases were closed as a result of the U.S. government shutdown.

“Military personnel, retirees and their families heavily depend on commissaries for low-cost groceries and everyday needs.

“Sam’s Club understands that helping communities meet their needs during uncertain times is the first step to restoring normalcy.”

“In appreciation for the service that the military provides our members and communities, Sam’s Club locations near military bases will waive membership requirements for military personnel, retirees, spouses and their families so they may continue saving on everyday goods and groceries.”

The government shutdown has already effected many. The Inquisitr reported on how the government shutdown has effected the military veterans who have tried to visit the World War II memorial.

According to earlier reports, during the first days of the shutdown, the WWII vets wouldn’t let the shutdown stop them from entering the closed World War II memorial.

One such veteran was reported saying, “We didn’t come this far not to get in.”

What do you think of Sam’s Club’s actions that allow military personnel to shop at their stores without worrying about the store’s membership fees?

Sam’s Club has stated that this initiative will continue for military personnel, and their families, until the government shutdown has ended.
