Big Boi’s Wife Files For Divorce

The wife of Atlanta rapper Big Boi filed for divorce after 11 years of marriage Wednesday.

Big Boi, whose real name is Antwan André Patton, is one half of the Grammy Award-winning duo OutKast. He married Sherlita Patton in February 2002, and the couple have two children together, 18-year-old daughter Jordan and 12-year-old son Cross. Big Boi also has a son, Bamboo, from a previous relationship.

Sherlita Patton filed a divorce complaint in Fulton County Superior Court and said that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and is seeking alimony, attorney’s fees, and an equitable division of marital property. She is also asking for sole custody of Cross and corresponding child support.

Big Boi ruffled some feathers last year when he said that he wasn’t happy with Mary J. Blige for “cheering for Obama” in the 2008 song “Sumthin’s Gotta Give.”

The “Shutterbugg” rapper told Pitchfork, “I didn’t tell her to do that. On my damn record. I had a problem with it. I’m not pro-government at all, I’m pro-people.”

Big Boi also said that he didn’t care who the president is, but that he wasn’t entirely impressed with President Obama’s first term in office.

“What did he do? They say he’s trying to clean up a mess, right? Well, he needs a big-ass broom, and he gotta keep on sweeping,” he said. “I ain’t on nobody’s team, you feel me? I’m about the American people.”

In January, the 38-year-old admitted that he voted for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. He said a white woman, assuming he voted for Obama, congratulated him on the president’s re-election.

“And, you know, just to let her know I was on my P’s and Q’s, I was like, ‘I don’t know what you talkin’ bout, I voted for Gary Johnson,'” he said. “And she looked shocked to even know that I knew there were other candidates on the ballot, you know what I’m saying? So, you can’t judge a book by its cover.”
