NeNe Leakes Ready To Take Center Stage In New Spinoff Show

NeNe Leakes is no longer just a simple housewife.

One of the most popular stars on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Leakes is ready to break out into a show of her own that chronicles her re-marriage to Gregg Leakes. The spinoff, titled I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding, will show viewers how NeNe and Gregg repaired their failed relationship and got married in the summer.

NeNe Leakes actually had a chance to have her own spinoff show before, but turned down the offers from Bravo. Then, when she and Gregg got engaged, NeNe finally agreed.

She told Entertainment Weekly about how what started out as a one-time special evolved into an entire series.

“So, when Gregg and I got married, we got engaged last year, and Bravo heard about it and asked us if we would do our wedding on television, we said, ‘Yeah, we’ll do a two-hour special,’ and they were like, ‘No, we weren’t thinking of a two-hour special; we were thinking about a whole show about your wedding.’ I said, ‘Oh, okay, like a couple of episodes?’ And they were like, ‘No, we’re talking about six episodes.’ And then I thought, ‘Six, that’s a lot,” and they came back and said eight, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s a lot.’ So, Gregg and I talked about it back and forth, and talked about it with our team, and we thought maybe we should do this. It is a lot of work, because I executive produce the show — my work is doubled.”

The work NeNe Leakes spoke of included shooting three scenes a day, which meant three wardrobe changes, along with promoting the show. And to top it off, she’s still pulling double duty on Real Housewives of Atlanta.

There is likely to be some drama on the new show. In June a wedding planner sued NeNe Leakes claiming that she never paid the $1 million balance on the wedding, an allegation NeNe denied.
