Malin Ackerman Says Being A Trophy Wife Isn’t So Bad

Star Malin Ackerman has a new title, mom aside, to add to her resume — “trophy wife.”

Or more accurately, Malin Ackerman can add Trophy Wife to her IMDB page, as the 35-year-old new mother also has a new role.

Trophy Wife has been a while in the making, actually — Malin says she found out she was expecting work not too long after she learned she was expecting new son Sebastian.

And the title of the show is meant to be sort of a credit to the title character, not a critique. While Ackerman acknowledges that a trophy wife isn’t a nice thing to be for anyone involved, the title pokes fun at people who make the assumption of a younger, attractive female with an older, been around the block man:

“From an outsider’s point of view, people go: ‘Oh, younger, cute woman with an older man. Of course she’s a trophy wife.’ But we learn that Kate is really this lovely woman who is in it for the right reasons. Loves the kids, loves her husband, but just isn’t really good at it yet.”

Malin explains that she’s looking forward to a TV gig, saying that movies and motherhood (or fatherhood) can be a tough balance. She adds:

“To be honest with you, I’d been doing film for a while, which I love… but I got to a certain point where there was one year where I was home maybe three months out of the whole year and I was like: ‘You know what? I would love to just be home, be with my husband, be with my friends and just kind of have more of a regular schedule.’ ”

Malin Ackerman’s new Trophy Wife airs Tuesdays at 9:30 PM on ABC, and the blonde comedic actress adds that a sitcom came naturally to her because she’d grown up in a funny family, “embarrassed so much in my life by my own parents that it’s like… nothing embarrasses me anymore.”
