‘Bridget Jones’ Author Kills Off Major Character, Fans React On Twitter

Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding recently revealed that a major character will bite the proverbial dust in the next installment of her series.

If you don’t want to know anything about the upcoming novel Mad About the Boy ahead of its release, then you should turn back now. There are a few spoilers about the book in the text below. In other words, you might want to proceed with extreme caution.

In Fielding’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the lovelorn lady and Mark Darcy entered the world of wedded bliss. However, the next story picks up when Jones is 51 years old, a mother of two, and a widow. According to The Independent, Darcy is dead and buried when this story begins.

Not surprisingly, some Bridget Jones fans were a little horrified to learn that the character’s husband croaked at some point between the novels. However, details about his demise aren’t available just yet. Fans will have to pick up the book on October 10 to learn precisely how the guy met his maker.

Time magazine reports that the novels have sold approximately 15 million copies worldwide. Not surprisingly, quite a few people have a vested interest in Bridget Jones and her life. Several social media enthusiasts were a little shocked to learn that Mark Darcy won’t return for the next installment.

“Darcy hasn’t died. Call me stubborn, fine, but I refuse to accept the new book as ‘Bridget Jones’ canon,” one irate user recently tweeted.
