Google Doodle Celebrates Yosemite National Park As Government Prepares For Shutdown

Tuesday’s Google Doodle celebrates the 123rd anniversary of Yosemite National Park . The doodle arrives on the same day that the federal government shutdown threatens to shut down the park for tourist activities.

Yosemite National Park is one of the most well-known and respected parks in the world, featuring the Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and much more.

The park, which hosts millions of visitors, will close today because of the Republican party’s refusal to agree on appropriations for a Federal budget on the same day ObamaCare (Affordable Care Act) goes into effect.

Non-essential institutions, including national parks, museums and other facilities will be closed and workers will be sent home without pay. The parks will remain closed until a resolution is reached between Republicans and Democrats.

It’s not clear if the Google Doodle was meant to send a powerful message to the US government or if plans had always been underway to celebrate the anniversary of Yosemite National Park.

With Autumn now upon us and colder days ahead, the closure of Yosemite National Park couldn’t come at a worse time, especially when we consider that it is only closing because of irresponsible legislation on behalf of our country’s lawmakers.

Visiting Google.com and clicking on the Google Doodle brings users to the search term “Yosemite National Park.” Under those results, many news outlets are reporting on the current, temporary fate of the park.

Do you think it is irresponsible for the US Government to shutdown National parks and other facilities?
