Tina Fey Spoofs ‘Girls’ On SNL, Lena Dunham Reacts [Video]

Tina Fey hosted the season opener of Saturday Night Live, and by our estimation, everyone really seemed to love it. This was a huge opener for the show, because over the summer creator Lorne Michaels had to replace a huge chunk of the cast that left. The opener which featured the newbies, was well received. Of those other well received sketches was a spoof on the HBO hit series Girls.

The spoof hilariously made fun of the one-sided caricatures of the Girls cast. The Saturday Night Live sketch features new SNL member Noel Wells as a spot-on Hannah (Lena Dunahm), Vanessa Bayer as the chatty kathy Shoshanna, and Cecily Strong as the perpetually whiny Marnie.

The best part of the Girls sketch was the additional character that was introduced. Cue Tina Fey looking like she walked off the set of Les Mis to portray “a girl from Albania”. Fey’s Girls character Blerta has OCD just like Hannah, except for the fact that it’s not obsessive compulsive disorder, and just “old cow disease.”

What is probably the most humorous part of the Girls sketch is that Blerta (Tina Fey) has essentially been planted into the lives of these Brooklyn transplants, and forced to listen to their trivial problems. Like most of its critics, Fey’s Blerta casts obvious deductions from the rambling conversations of the 20-somethings around her.

The Girls sketch earned a ton of laughs, and really helped jump-start the premiere episode. Series creator, writer, and lead actress Lena Dunham seemed to really dig SNL’s parody. Dunham even enjoyed the episode from the home of Mindy Kaling, who runs in the same circle of most of the former SNL members.

Dunham took to Twitter to discuss her thoughts on the Girls sketch:

Kaling, of course captured Lena Dunham enjoying the sketch in real-time and posted it on her Instagram, with a caption that read: “Original Girl enjoying Blerta on #snl’s Girls at my house.”
