Kirk Cameron Has First Hit With Jesus Film

Kirk Cameron finally has a hit on his hands. The self-proclaimed Jesus lover, and Growing Pains alum, has preached through the entertainment scope about the wonders of Catholicism for years now, and it seems that Cameron has finally paved a successful way to talk about fringe topics in the entertainment industry.

Kirk Cameron’s film Unstoppable, ran a very limited release, and hit the box office on Tuesday on 700 screens. The viewing was part of a one-night only event. According to Rentrak, Cameron’s Jesus flick scored $2 million, which means it sold approximately 150,000 ticket sales.

That said, this NCM Fathom Events is the most successful event that the company has founded since it started in 2002. Cameron was overjoyed as he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his first big hit.

“We were hoping for good numbers but weren’t expecting this to be quite so exciting. This is great.”

Unstoppable’s synopsis from Fathom Events is as follows:

“Join Kirk in his inspiring investigation into the moral origins of good and evil, their inspirational value and their historical significance to us today. UNSTOPPABLE promises to bring families and communities together with a big picture view of how we can live victorious lives in the face of adversity, changing our world for good.”

Cameron called Unstoppable his “most personal” project so far. Kirk, who has experienced scrutiny for his ultra conservative views is at the center of the film as he examines the powerful issues surrounding faith when tragedy strikes.

If that seems pretty vague to you, then you may want to check out the intriguing trailer below.

Kirk Cameron’s Unstoppable will be out in theaters once again but nationwide. The film will hit a theater near you on Thursday, October 3.

In addition to Cameron’s Unstoppable, he is also working on a scripted film about a Little League Baseball team.
