Dodgers Fan Dies After Being Stabbed Outside AT&T Park

A Dodgers fan died after he was stabbed during a fight outside AT&T Park, and San Francisco Police say they have two suspects in custody.

The fight started as a verbal altercation between fans after Wednesday’s game and quickly escalated into violence. Witnesses say the victim was walking with his father and brother near a parking area underneath Highway 80. All three were wearing Dodgers gear, and were approached by several people.

The man, identified as Jonathan Denver, was stabbed in his upper body and taken to San Francisco General Hospital, but died a short time later from his wounds.

Police arrested two suspects after the Dodgers fan died. They did not say if either group had attended the game or watching in a nearby bar to see the Giants defeat the Dodgers 6-4.

The Dodgers fan dies just three days after another violent incident in San Francisco. A teenage football fan was attacked outside Candlestick Park during the San Francisco 49ers loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and several other fans got into fights in and outside the stadium.

Another 49ers fan died in an accident at the team’s season opener. The death came just after the 1:30 pm kickoff, when a man who witnesses say was intoxicated fell from an elevated pedestrian walkway and onto a sidewalk below.

Violence is somewhat common when the Dodgers play the Giants, and security is often increased for these contests.

The incidents are not isolated to San Francisco, either. In 2011, two Dodgers fans beat a paramedic from Northern California outside Dodger Stadium. The man, Bryan Stow, was nearly killed in the incident and is still recovering more than two years later.

A spokeswoman for the Giants did not shed light on Wednesday’s incident, but did note that where the Dodgers fan died was several blocks from the stadium.
