South Park: 3D Opening Gets Mixed Reviews [Video]

South Park’s new 3D intro is getting a lot of attention. The opening sequence was introduced with the premier of season 17. Although the intro was new and unique, some fans simply did not like it.

The full intro was posted on South Park’s Facebook page. The post drew a lot of likes, shares, and comments from fans. However, some fans complained that 3D intro was not true to the 2D nature of the show.

The comment section turned into a battleground, as the fans resorted to calling each other names.

The intro features the show’s original song. The 2D characters travel through the 3D town on a school bus. The sequence features well-known points of interest, including Stark’s Pond, City Wok, and the elementary school.

The town is featured in a new and more detailed way, giving fans a fresh perspective.

As reported by Digital Spy, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been working on a South Park game titled The Stick of Truth. Ubisoft announced that the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions will be released on December 10.

Some fans suggest the intro is a preview of the game.

The intro premiered along with this season’s first episode. The episode was titled “Let Go, Let Gov.” The 20 minute episode featured references to the NSA, social media, Alec Baldwin, Edward Snowden, President Obama, James Brown, Anthony Wiener, and Jennifer Lawrence.

As reported by Den of Geek, the episode was “loaded with religious and governmental overtones” in true South Park style.

While fans enjoyed the premier, they seem to be disappointed with the opening sequence.

The program has been the topic of numerous controversies throughout 16 seasons. However, the title sequence has never been a point of contention. It will be interesting to see whether South Park retains the new 3D intro for the entire season.
