Mark Wahlberg’s four children will be making cameo appearances in Transformers: Age of Extinction.
The 42-year-old is taking over the lead role in the upcoming fourth installment in the Transformers franchise. Age of Extinction is the first film in the series not to star Shia LaBeouf, and is also the first to feature an entirely new cast. So far, the only Transformers returning from previous films are Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
Wahlberg plays Cade, a single father and struggling inventor. His children — 10-year-old Ella Rae, 7-year-old Michael Robert, 4-year-old Brendan Joseph, and 3-year-old Grace Margaret — recently filmed a small cameo for the movie, the Boston native told MTV News.
“My kids just did a cameo, just scared people in the street looking up, but they did a great job. I was so nervous because Michael [Bay] doesn’t have time for bad performances,” he said.
“You have to understand; you’re shooting a $300 million movie. You’ve got a lot going on. He’s got five, six takes. If you ain’t got it, you’re done,” Wahlberg added. “I didn’t want to see my kids get clipped. They were excited about it, but they started to get mad at me because I’m trying to over-direct them. It went great.
Wahlberg also said he was grateful that Bay put his kids in the movie, and that he wanted to thank him in person.
“For him to take the time to set up the specific shot that he actually wants to put in the movie for my kids. I don’t like asking for those kinds of things,” Wahlberg said. “I was going to send him a text, but I just wanted to wait and thank him in person. I gave him a big hug yesterday.”
Mark Wahlberg was officially cast in the Transformers sequel last November. Michael Bay, who worked with the actor on Pain & Gain, said he was happy to be reunited with the Golden Globe nominee.
“I’m so fired up to be back working with him,” Bay said. “An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers legacy.”
Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters June 27, 2014.
