The movie, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, stars Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer who is participating in her first Shuttle mission, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney). During a routine spacewalk disaster strikes and the pairs shuttle is destroyed. The spacecrafts destruction leaves the astronauts tethered together and spiraling out into the blackness of space.
As their communication devices go black the two adventurers realize they are alone with no way to get back home.
As they attempt to save their lives each gulp of air is one step closer to death.
Gravity was written by Alfonso Cuarón & Jonás Cuarón, and produced by Alfonso Cuarón and David Heyman. Serving as executive producers are Chris deFaria, Nikki Penny and Stephen Jones.
Visual effects for Gravity are handled by Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Tim Webber (“The Dark Knight”).
Recently James Cameron called Gravity “the best space film ever done.” Gushing over the film Cameron proclaimed:
“I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time.”
Cameron then added:
“I read the script, and I thought it was tremendously challenging to shoot with a high degree of veracity to get the real look of zero gravity. I’m sure Alfonso had a real uphill battle with the studio, with everyone involved, to get it the way it needed to look. But he knew in his mind how it needed to look, and he went after it.”
