Katie Holmes Hits Fashion Week, Leaves The Creek Behind

Katie Holmes may always be Joey to many of us, but the former Mrs. Tom Cruise is changing gears on her career and transitioning over to something else entirely.

At New York Fashion Week, Katie Holmes the actress was busy being Katie Holmes the style maven — and it’s not a vanity project.

Holmes has been working with brands like Alterna (hair) and Bobbi Brown (makeup), and even hinted at breaking into fragrance.

But at NYFW, Katie was up to something else entirely, showing off a new line for her collaboration Holmes & Yang.

Holmes explained that she’s enjoying being Katie the designer, telling E! that the NYFW maelstrom was more fun than frustration. She gushed:

“It’s really exciting. It’s a wonderful thing to work and I’m very inspired by my partner Jeanne Yang, she’s a wonderful designer and we had a great presentation. It was actually very relaxed and we really enjoyed ourselves.”

Katie also discussed what inspires her as a designer, saying that fresh and simple fashion is more her all-American taste:

“I’ve always been a fan of Michael Kors. I love his classic designs. It’s so accessible to so many women—from his watches to his bags to his beautiful designs and I think he’s just such a great American designer and I’m really happy to be here.”

At NYFW, Katie Holmes totally embodied the fresh-faced and simple, classic look she described — stunning in a kelly green short-sleeved v-neck top, a white large-pattern flowered skirt, and nude, pointed classic heels with a bold, gold bangle.
