2 Million Bikers Go To D.C., Social Media Cheers Them On

As 2 million bikers head to D.C. to protest the event formerly known as the “million Muslim march,” the social web is cheering the rally on — despite its effects on Washington-area traffic.

On the 12th anniversary of September 11, the 2 million bikers headed to D.C. are being pitted on sites like Twitter and Facebook against the Million American March Against Fear — a group that welcomed the bikers’ adjacent rally.

Over on Facebook, the “million Muslim march” page posted on August 29, acknowledging the 2 million bikers’ plans to go to D.C. alongside them and saying:

“AMPAC and the Million American March Against Fair (MAMAF) are absolutely happy to see your press release knowing that the 2 million Bikers group does also share with us the same goals and purpose for rallying at Washington DC on 9/11. In a peaceful demonstration both of our groups will be united to exercise our civil right in a great country. We look forward to see you there and will be happy to work with each others.”

A statement on the Million American March Against Fear’s Facebook page, however, seems to be in conflict with the 2 million bikers to D.C. mission, reading:

“If the United States of America is to remain a constitutional democratic republic, the American people need to stop being afraid… They must stop being afraid of each other. And they must stop being afraid of the truth.”

Over on Twitter, it seems that if the bikers’ mission is not fear or anger based, the feelings of supporters may differ. Some tweeted:

There were allegations of a 2 million bikers media blackout:

And a general adversarial feeling from many cheering the rally:

What do you think about the 2 million bikers to D.C. rally?
