Father Sentenced For Rape Of Son’s Prom Date

A father has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after he convicted by a jury of raping his son’s prom date.

67-year-old, Ismael Cruz, will be incarcerated for at least 25 years for the offence, which he was found guilty of last month. Previously, Cruz had been placed in prison after he was twice caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the hearing, Cruz’s attorney asked state District Judge Ray Olivarri for the minimum 25 years in jail, however Mr Olivarri decided to sentence him to the maximum 35 years in prison.

The case began in May 2012, when Cruz’s victim, who was only 19-years-old at the time of the attack, contacted police and told them that she had passed out at her boyfriend’s home on the night of the prom, after consuming way too much alcohol.

She then revealed that in the middle of the night she woke up and found the her dress had been partially removed, and that Mr Cruz was on top of her.

At first, she didn’t realise that it wasn’t her boyfriend, Ismael Cruz’s son. However, she told police, as soon as she noticed that it was actually his father she then pushed him away and screamed at the top of her voice.

This awoke her boyfriend who ran downstairs and confronted his intoxicated father. He then began to attack and assault Ismael Cruz, right up until police arrived. Even once officers had constrained Ismael’s son, he repeatedly charged at him, according to court documents.

Ismael Cruz, who for a brief period of time was held at Bexar County detention center in San Antonio, confessed that over the course of the night in question he had consumed in excess of 60 beers. Both the names of the victim and the son of Ismael Cruz have been kept secret.
