‘American Psycho’ Series Developing Over At FX

Years later and it seems as though American Psycho is more popular now more than ever. Even Kanye West made an American Psycho-themed music video.

Now we’re learning that a network took notice of this fan boying over American Psycho. It’s being reported that FX is bringing psychopath Patrick Bateman back to life in a sequel series for prime time television.

The new American Psycho series will not be set in the 80s but instead in present day. The novel “American Psycho” was set in the 80s and published in 1991, and for the most part was the basis for the 2000 film starring Christian Bale.

The fact that FX would want to make a more modern television series on a classic isn’t too surprising. Afterall the new A&E show Bates Motel was a runaway hit, and scored huge ratings for the network. We don’t blame FX for wanting to capture that excitement at all, especially given the interest in the culture behind American Psycho.

The new series will be a shift from both the novel and film. FX’s American Psycho is said to focus more on the killings than the general tone of the book. For all those naysayers out there, take the successful “Silence of the Lambs” adaptation. Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal was a series that people were not excited about, but then audiences found themselves tuning in week after week to see what Mads Mikkelsen would do as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

In addition FX does know its horror as they have achieved some major success with Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, which will be going into its third season in October.

With that said, it looks like the American Psycho series is in excellent hands.
