‘Game Of Thrones’ Casts Sigur Rós For Season 4

Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós has been cast for season 4 of Game of Thrones.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Orri Páll Dýrason are currently shooting an appearance in Croatia. While it isn’t known what roles the band is playing, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are longtime fans and often listened to the group’s music while filming in Iceland.

Sigur Rós isn’t the only band to appear on Game of Thrones. Coldplay drummer Will Champion appeared last season as a drummer, and Snow Patrol lead vocalist Gary Lightbody appeared as a Bolton soldier. The National and The Hold Steady performed songs inspired by the lyrics in the Song of Ice and Fire saga, which were both used on the series’ soundtracks.

Sigur Rós also provided original music for The Simpsons‘ episode “The Saga of Carl,” including their own version of the series’ theme song. The group is about to begin a North American “Autumn” tour, which starts in Detroit on September 14 and will end in Mexico City on October 13. The band will embark on the European leg of their “Autumn” tour starting on November 16 in Dublin, and ending November 30 in Helsinki.

The third season of Game of Thrones premiered March 31, drawing 4.37 million viewers, up from 3.86 million for the season 2 premiere. The season finale drew 5.39 million viewers, more than a million viewers than the season 2 finale (4.20 million). The show was nominated for 16 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

According to HBO, the third season of Game of Thrones had an average gross audience of 14.2 million viewers, making it the second-most viewed season of any HBO series (after the fifth season of the Sopranos).

Game of Thrones season 4 will be based on roughly the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The fourth season of Game of Thrones airs next spring.
