Benedict Cumberbatch In Star Wars? ‘No Offer Has Been Made’ Actor Says

Benedict Cumberbatch is an extremely talented actor and one of Star Trek Into Darkness’ only redeeming qualities. Having worked with J.J. Abrams before, he’s a natural for a role of some kind in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, right?

That’s just what the Internet has been thinking lately. Rumors that Cumberbatch is up for a role, possibly as a villain, in the upcoming film have been making media rounds for a few weeks. So is there anything to it, or is it just speculation?

“No offer has been made. That is that. And that is that,” Cumberbatch told Access Hollywood at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival.

But hey, he’s not opposed to the idea.

“This is the simple truth. J.J. [Abrams] and I have worked together before. I would love to work with him again,” Cumberbatch said.

The actor’s reps shot down the rumor last week, but a few fans are still hoping that this is some sort of classic Abrams ruse.

“There is no truth to the rumor Benedict has been cast in ‘Star Wars,'” a rep for the actor said. “I think the rumors are circling because J.J. and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on ‘Star Trek.'”

Cumberbatch isn’t the only high-profile actor attached to the upcoming Star Wars by virtue of rumor. Far-fetched suggestions have included Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonathan Rhys Meyers all being considered for roles.

Either way, Benedict Cumberbatch has plenty to keep him busy in the meantime. His WikiLeaks drama The Fifth Estate premiered at TIFF, and he has back-to-back appearances in the next two Hobbit films. What do you think, is Star Wars in the cards for him?
