Ben Affleck As Batman: Lexus Takes A Side On Twitter

Everyone on the planet seems to have an opinion about Ben Affleck playing Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Even car companies are getting in on the act.

News of the Argo director’s casting in Superman vs. Batman caused an uproar on social media earlier this week. Not only did people begin making a series of mean-spirited memes about the casting, they also created hashtags on Twitter to address the situation.

One popular hashtag that made the rounds was #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck. Since the folks at Lexus are always looking for a way to take advantage of free advertising on social media, the company decided to jump into the fray. Apparently they think their automobiles would make a better Batman than Ben Affleck.

“You can question the superhero. You can’t question the supercar,” the company tweeted.

Someone working behind-the-scenes at Lexus must have thought this was a really bad idea. The post has since disappeared from the company’s official Twitter feed. However, retweets still live on. It’s incredibly hard to erase your marketing mistakes these days.

Business Insider managed to grab a screenshot of the tweet in question before Lexus decided to yank it from the internet. While picking on Ben Affleck’s casting as Batman may have seemed like a good idea at the time, the website points out that the Daredevil star drives a Lexus.

The #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck hashtag has taken on a life of its own following the Man of Steel 2 news. This casting decision doesn’t seem to have settled well with too many people on Twitter. As a result, this hashtag ended up trending for a few days last week.

Here’s a few people that some believe would be better as Batman.

Here’s the Lexus tweet that was later removed from Twitter.

Do you think Ben Affleck will make a great Batman? Are you surprised by the amount of hate the actor has received on social media?
