Hipster Food Trade Off: Scalper Tries To Trade Cronut For A Ramen Burger


A hungry Brooklyn native attempted to trade one of New York’s most craved food product, a Cronut, so that he could access another, a Ramen Burger.

People were patiently queueing up to get one of chef Keizo Shimamoto’s Ramen Burgers last weekend, when a cheeky patron arrived carrying a Cronut and asking individuals if they would like to exchange one for a place in line.

The incident occurred at Williamsburg’s Smorgasburg, where Shimamoto premiered his burger and noodle hybrid two weekends ago.

Justin Kim, a student in New York tweeted a picture of the man holding onto a Cronut, before adding the caption, “Guy is literally trying to sell a Cronut in the Ramen Burger Line.”

The man was later revealed to be Hagan Blount, who noted that he “had friends coming,” which is why he tried to make the exchange. Blount told Gothamist, “I wasn’t sure they were going to get burgers.”

Despite the fact that lines for Cronuts at Dominique Ansel Bakery have seen people queue for up to two hours to get their hands on the pastry, Blount was unable to get a place for a Ramen Burger.

Blount managed to exchange his Cronuts for three Cantaloupe Juices that were in the stand next to the Ramen Burgers.

Shimamoto has revealed that he now plans to open up a Ramen Burger restaurant if the burger’s popularity continues to rise. When he first premiered the dish he only made 150 burgers, but this has now doubled to 300 after last week’s success.

Scott Lynch, a Gothamist blogger, revealed the that secret ingredient in the burger is the soy-based shoyu sauce, which Lynch states, “brings both sweetness and salt to the party.”

Some people have criticised the burger though, with Kendrick Lo of the Huffington Post noting, “Waiting so long on an empty stomach will make just about anything seem amazing when you finally get it.”
