Ed Sheeran Joins The Voice As Christina Aguilera’s Advisor

Ed Sheeran has joined The Voice as Christina Aguilera’s advisor for season five of the singing competition.

In May, it was reported that Aguilera would be returning to The Voice after being replaced by Shakira in the fourth season. She — along with fellow judge Cee Lo Green — had left the competition to promote her most recent album, Lotus. Green was replaced by Usher, but will also be returning for season five. However, Shakira and Usher will reportedly be returning to the show next year. They are said to be in negotiations with NBC to sign a deal for the 2014 spring season.

According to the Huffington Post, Sheeran will appear during the Battle Rounds, which will air October 14 and 15 at 8 pm on NBC.

The 22-year-old English singer and songwriter co-wrote and provided vocals for Everything Has Changed on Taylor Swift’s Red album. Red, which was released in October 2012, was the best-selling new album of the year, and Everything Has Changed was released as the fifth single on July 16, 2013. Sheeran was also the opening act for part of the first leg of Swift’s Red Tour. His last performance was on August 10 at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Sheeran also contributed two songs to One Direction’s second album, Take Me Home. He also co-wrote Moments on the band’s debut album, which was released in November 2011.

Ed Sheeran’s debut album, +, was released in September 2011 and peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200. It was the highest debut for a British artist’s first studio album in the US since I Dreamed A Dream by Susan Boyle in 2009. The song has been certified gold in the US, and has gone five times platinum in the UK.

The fifth season of The Voice premieres September 23.
