‘Thor: The Dark World’ Arrives In IMAX 3D Theaters October 30
Marvel Entertainment and IMAX Corporation announced today that Thor: The Dark World will be digitally remastered in IMAX 3D format and released in IMAX theaters on October 30.
Chris Hemsworth stars for Marvel as Thor, the god of Thunder, in the highly successful 2011 film, Thor, as well as in The Avengers in 2012.
The films have combined earnings of $2 billion at the box office.
In this latest installment, Academy Award winners Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins will also reprise their roles, as will Tom Hiddleston playing the villain Loki, with a twist.
“Like all the dynamic Marvel characters, Thor has developed a massive global following, and we look forward to moviegoers experiencing this highly anticipated next chapter in IMAX 3D,” said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. “We’re excited to continue to build on our flourishing partnership with Marvel and Disney with this iconic property.”
Disney executive, Dave Hollis added that all the nine realms will be stunningly displayed when Thor: The Dark World arrives in IMAX 3D in October.
“We continue to have great success with IMAX and are thrilled to once again work with them to bring the Marvel Universe to life in this premium format.”
Returning are Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, and Rene Russo.
Director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Mad Men) is at the helm with a story by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, and a screenplay by Christopher L. Yost, and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
The film will be digitally re-mastered into the 3D experience with IMAX Digital Re-mastering technology, which gives the audience the impression of being in the film.
