‘Downton Abbey’: Suitors For One Daughter, Talks Of Season 5

Downton Abbey, Season 4 premieres in the United Kingdom in under a month now and viewers are ready to see how things will unfold after the dramatic events of last season. A fifth season is being planned.

Paul Giamatti joins the cast, and will be one of the many handsome suitors pursuing the newly widowed Lady Mary Gratham (Michelle Dockery)

As the new season begins, we will see Lady Mary is still in mourning, six months after her husband’s tragic death in a car accident as he was leaving the hospital where she had given birth to the couple’s first son, and heir to Downton, George.

Not only Dockery, but millions who follow the show around the world were shocked, to say the least, at the manner in which Dan Stevens, who played Matthew Crawley exited the show, and for viewers in the UK, this episode was aired on Christmas Day. Truly cruel.

Dockery has stated she knew Dan was leaving Downton Abbey, but the last scene left her speechless as she watched at home with her family.

Of the new season, Michelle shared that Mary will have more than one love interest and luckily for her, they’re all very handsome.

“She’s kind of slowly throughout the series coming back to real life, and of course it’s important for her to eventually move on.” Dockery says.

Giamatti plays an American family relation that comes to Downton and he is joined by opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa among others.

The period drama finds itself in the midst of the 1920s with a rapidly changing world surrounding the Grathams. World War I is over and it’s time to prosper.

Executive producer Gareth Neame says that the fifth season is being planned, while suggesting more could come. However, he said he doesn’t envision bringing the characters all the way to World War II.

Downton Abbey, Season 4 comes to the US in January on PBS Masterpiece.
