Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez Win At 2013 Teen Choice Awards: She Showed, He Didn’t

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez both won three top awards at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards last night (August 11).

The show, now in its 14th year, was hosted by Darren Criss of Glee and Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars and saw stars from film, television, music and fashion descend on the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.

Bieber didn’t show at the event and none of his awards were presented on air.

The elusive 19-year-old was nominated for four awards and won three: Choice Male Artist, Choice single from a Male Artist for “Beauty and A Beat,” and beat out none other than President Barack Obama to win Choice Twitter Personality.

So, where was the Biebs and why didn’t he show?

Well, his exact location isn’t known but after completing his last run of North American Believe tour shows on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia, the probably fatigued star announced he would be taking a break with likely intermittent studio dates.

After his ATL concert, the Canadian star tweeted numerous messages to his fans, one of which read: “WE ON A BREAK!! #restandrelaxation – #unlessIhitthestudio.”

The other possible reason is the recent kiss-and-tell story from now reality star Milyn Jensen. The 22-year-old claims to have had an intimate session with Bieber last December and says she is the reason his relationship with Gomez ended last year.

Although he passed on going to the Teen Choice awards, Bieber did send appreciative messages to Beliebers for his fan-voted trio of surfboards.

Bieber kicks off his last international leg with a one-off show at Singapore’s Formula 1 Grand Prix on September 23. From there, he will then head to Thailand for the start of his Asian dates before hitting Latin America, New Zealand, finally wrapping in Australia on December 8.

Over to Gomez.

The 21-year-old continued her banner year by winning three surfboards for Choice Breakup song with her former first Billboard number one single “Come and Get It.” The Latina also claimed the Choice Summer Music Star and Choice Female Hottie.

Wearing a gorgeous emerald green down with cut-out detail, the starlet kept her speech short as she accepted her Teen Choice Award for Choice Breakup song.

“Thank you guys so much,” she said, then went on to add.”I think it’s an encouraging song so I am glad everyone is responding to it. I honestly appreciate you guys giving me the chance to do what I love every day, so this is your award, this isn’t mine.”

Incidentally, Gomez was seated fairly close to ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas in the auditorium on the night.

In brief, other highlights and awards at the Teen choice Awards saw a slew of wins for The Twilight Saga: Breaking 2 Part 2, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and Glee.

Lea Michele gave a deeply emotional speech as she accepted the award for Choice TV Actress in a Comedy. Dedicating her award to her late boyfriend and co-star Cory Monteith who died on July 13 from a lethal overdose of heroin and alcohol, it was a very real moment in an otherwise upbeat show.

Glee also won the award for Choice TV Comedy, and the entire ensemble cast dedicate the award to Monteith.

Pretty Little Liars picked up Choice TV Show; Choice Actor and actress for Ian Harding and Troian Bellisario respectively, with Janel Parish winning for Choice TV villain.

The Vampire Diaries monopolized the Sci-Fi/Fantasy television section, winning the Choice Award for TV show and Choice actor and actress for Ian Somerhalder and actress Nina Dobrev.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 waltzed off with the Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy award. It also delivered the Best Sci-Fi actress gong for Kristen Stewart and the equivalent for Taylor Lautner.

The film also claimed the Choice Movie Award for Romance and another actress win for Stewart.

Her ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson bagged the Best Actor in a Romance movie award with co-star Kellan Lutz winning Choice Scene Stealer.

Other winners on the night included Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Rebel Wilson, boyband One Direction, Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey Jr., Nicholas Hoult, Lucy Liu, LL Cool J, and many more,
