Bomb Threat At Philadelphia Airport, Plane Taken To Isolated Location

There was a bomb threat on a plane today at Philadelphia International Airport.

NBC reports that US Airways Flight 777 from Shannon, Ireland landed at the Philly airport as scheduled but had to be taken to an isolated location after authorities caught wind of a bomb threat.

MSNBC reports that an unidentified male called police and told them that there was a bomb on the plane. Authorities, who called it an “unsubstantiated bomb threat,” decided to proceed with caution and had the plane taken out to an isolated location where they could inspect luggage for any explosives.

There are about 177 people on the flight. ABC reports that all passengers are being loaded onto a bus. They will be taken to a secure area and then interviewed by police. Authorities will also screen luggage and take bomb sniffing dogs through the plane.

Victoria Lupica, a spokeswoman for the airport, said that inbound flights are currently delayed due to the bomb threat. Outbound flights are taking off as normal.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Homeland Security are currently investigating the threat.

CBS notes that U.S. customs officials at the Shannon Airport would have screened all passengers and luggage before the plane took off for Philadelphia.
