Dolphin Catches Cod, Gives It To A Family Of Kayakers

A dolphin off the British coast surprised a lucky family with a giant surprise dinner.

The family spotted the dolphin as it swam around their canoes and kayaks. The dolphin was friendly and showed off to the family before dropping a giant cod in front of a stunned 14-year-old Lucy Watkins.

The dolphin leaped out of the water and dropped the dead fish near the family.

As Lucy, obviously stunned, looked at the fish, the dolphin emerged from the water for a second time and pushed the 10 pound fish in her direction.

At first Lucy and her grandparents weren’t sure if they should pick up the cod or let the Dolphin reclaim it. Seconds later, the dolphin reemerged with another fish of its own. Apparently the dolphin prefers sea bass to cod.

Eventually Lucy grabbed the dolphin’s cod offering and took it to Combe Martin in Devon.

Speaking to SWSN, Lucy says of the odd event:

“He definitely wanted me to have his fish. He first dropped it 20ft away but then pushed it to within 5ft of my kayak.

On the beach, stunned spectators watched as the entire scene unfolded and eventually led to a free cod for dinner.

Lucy admits that she built trust with the dolphin by splashing her hands and feet in the water to get its attention.

According to Grandma Nina:

“It seemed rude to refuse him so we took the fish and had cod and chips for supper. It was massive – I’ve still got half in the freezer.”

Dolphin’s are known for their playful attitude towards humans, and now we can add table manners to their list of really cool traits.

Would you accept a giant cod if a dolphin practically begged you to take it?
