Internet Sensation Sophia Grace To Play Little Red Riding Hood [Report]

Internet sensation Sophia Grace has had a huge year since she and her cousin Rosie were jumping around and singing Nicki Minaj songs on Youtube. Since then the performing duo have performed over a dozen times on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and even have their own segment on the show.

Now it looks like Sophia Grace, the oldest, and hammy Brit will be playing Little Red Riding Hood in the Disney film Into The Woods. The news was confirmed by a post on Twitter by Sophia Grace’s uncle, Lucas Brownlee.

Brownlee tweeted: “Its official, @PrincessSGB (Sophia Grace brownlee) has landed the part of little red riding hood in the disney movie in to the wood.”

While most of the cast has been spot on, with Meryl Steep as The Witch, and Johnny Depp as The Wolf, Sophia Grace’s inclusion is a bit off. The role of Little Red Riding Hood has always been played by an older person who resembles youth due to the sexual connotations in the arc between Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf.

In both the musical and filmed stage version of Into The Woods, The Wolf sings “Hello Little Girl” which details his desire to take away Little Red Riding Hood’s virginity. In addition The Wolf is supposed to have an anatomically correct body which he flaunts around Little Red Riding Hood as he acts as a predator.

A popular guess is by casting Sophia Grace it’s easier for Disney to get rid of the sexual nature between Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf, which is the main arc of their story. In fact, Little Red Riding Hood’s big song “I Know Things Now” would not only be off-putting but would not make sense given the nature of the lyrics. One of the lyrics during Red’s big moment is sung, “He seemed so nice. And he showed me things. Many beautiful things, that I hadn’t thought to explore. They were off my path, so I never had dared.”

In addition to Sophia Grace as Little Red Riding Hood, the cast includes Chris Pine, Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and James Corden.
