American Horror Story: Coven Gets First Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for American Horror Story: Coven has finally been released.

Unfortunately, as implied by the term “teaser,” the 18-second clip — titled “Detention” — reveals very little about the series. The trailer opens with the first line of The House Of The Rising Sun (Rising Sun Blues), which says “There is a house in New Orleans.” The song tells the story of a poor boy whose life is ruined by the house. A door then opens into a stark white room in which women hang from the walls. One woman is even hanging in the fireplace. There is also a white cat, which makes sense given the subject matter of witches.

The fact that the song talks about a house is interesting. The first season of American Horror Story focused on a family who moved into a house in Los Angeles that is haunted by the ghosts of anyone who is killed on the property. However, it’s unlikely Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk will revisit the Murder House.

Other than that, there isn’t much to glean from the clip, which is standard operating procedure for Murphy and Falchuk. What is known is that the season will focus on a group of witches who move to New Orleans from Salem, Massachusetts after the Witch Trials.

Series alumni Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, and Sarah Paulson will be returning for American Horror Story: Coven. Taissa Farmiga, who appeared in season one, will also be returning as part of the main cast. Newcomers include Gabourey Sidibe, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett in the main cast, and Patti LuPone, Emma Roberts, and Grey Damon in recurring roles. Alexandra Breckenridge and Denis O’Hare, both of whom appeared in season one, will be returning in recurring roles.
