Dallas Cowboys Win Hall Of Fame Game Against Miami

The Dallas Cowboys won the first game of the 2013 season — at least for the exhibition season. The Cowboys controlled most of Sunday night’s Hall of Fame game against the Miami Dolphins and ended up with a 24-20 victory.

Quarterback Tony Romo, who recently had back surgery to remove a cyst, sat out for Dallas, but his absence didn’t hurt the Cowboys too much.

And the team was also helped by rookie linebacker Devonte Holloman, notes The New York Times. The sixth-round pick returned a tipped pas 75 yards for a touchdown.

Holloman was in perfect position for fellow rookie Chad Bumphis, who saw Matt Moore’s pass bounce off his hands in the second quarter. Not one to waste an opportunity, the former South Carolina player caught the ball and made the touchdown.

The play was the biggest for Dallas’ defense, which is currently switching to a 4-3 alignment. Other than the mishap, Bumphis also had a strong game with five receptions and 85 yards.

After the Hall of Fame game, ESPN reports that Holloman was happy to make the play. He added, “I was just happy to get into the end zone once I intercepted the pass.” And the touchdown also gave Holloman his first handshake from Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.

With a win already under their belts, there is hope that the Cowboys will do better than last year. The team had 16 turnovers, including eight fumbles and eight interceptions, and tied for 28th in the NFL. They also tied fo 27th in points scored off turnovers for the 2012 season.

While a score of 24-20 didn’t allow the Cowboys to run away with the game, it’s worth noting that Romo and running back DeMarco Murray didn’t play in the Hall of Fame game. Until they are back, there is no true way to gauge how the Dallas Cowboys will play this season.
