Sandra Bullock Gets Detached In New ‘Gravity’ Clip [Video]

Sandra Bullock is having a pretty bad day in the latest clip from Gravity.

Director Alfonso Cuaron’s drama tells the story of two astronauts who find themselves stranded after debris destroys their shuttle. Alone and terrified, the pair must figure out a way to return to Earth.

The latest clip from Gravity begins just as things are starting to fall apart. George Clooney sets out to rescue Sandra Bullock, who appears to be stuck outside of the shuttle. When space debris hits the shuttle, Bullock’s character is sent into a dizzying spin.

Watching Bullock struggle to orient herself is a mind-blowing experience, one that apparently took its toll on the actress during filming. According to the Hope Floats star, a lot of the reactions you’ll see on the big screen are very real.

In order to make it appear that Sandra Bullock and George Clooney were lost in space, Alfonso Cuaron constructed a cube that would accurately simulate the look and feel of an astronaut trapped in such a situation. The actress described the director as a “mad puppeteer.”

“They had me strung up for eight to ten hours day. I learned to meditate up there. Alfonso gave me boxes of CDs with sounds that would set the tone for a scene and help me stay in the right head space,” she said during the panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

“It was a very intense experience for Sandra. [She] was completely insulated inside that cube. In between takes, she would stay inside there, with her music, inside her zone,” the filmmaker explained.

The space adventure is currently set to arrive in theaters on October 3. This writer wouldn’t be at all surprised if the flick ends up getting some love during the awards season.
