An anonymous artist has left a tribute to 17-year-old Trayvon Martin using skittles in Brooklyn, New York, a day after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of his murder.

An outline of a body, which was drawn in chalk, was then traced over with skittles and then appeared on a sidewalk in the Bed-Stuy region of Brooklyn.

Martin was shot dead by Zimmerman as he returned to his father’s fiance’s home after visiting a 7-Eleven convenience store to buy an iced tea and a packet of the rainbow coloured snack. A can of iced tea was also placed next to the piece of art, which first emerged on Sunday on Fulton Street near Throop Avenue in the borough.

Various protests have broken out across New York City and the country after Zimmerman was acquitted of the murder, as people reacted to the verdict that was bestowed upon him.

Most of these incidents were peaceful, however around a dozen people were arrested after they clashed with police officers in Times Square, New York.

An East Village activist, 25-year-old Daniel Maree, gave his reason for the protest, which originally gathered at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in Union Square Park before heading upto Midtown at 6.pm, stating, “We’re upset about the verdict. We feel like it’s taking the country back in time.”

He then added, “Trayvon Martin is just the tip of the iceberg. If you’re going to solve this issue, you have to understand that people of color are killed on a regular basis.”

Other people to pay tribute to Trayvon Martin have included Kim Kardashian, who tweeted, “My heart goes out to Trayvon Martin’s family & loved ones. Thoughts & prayers being sent their way. #nojustice.” However the reality TV star was quickly chastised for her comments because of her father’s work on the OJ Simpson trial.
