2010 College Football Preview: Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #1 ranked team according to the Sporting News. We end our season previews with one of the best college football teams going right now. Even though reining Heisman Trophy winner RB Mark Ingram is out for the opener and week to week after that, this team still boasts a big time rushing attack with Sophomore RB Trent Richardson. These teams lost nine defensive starters, but return enough playmakers to soften that blow some. However the secondary is full of unproven players and may just be this team’s biggest weakness.

Since they are the reining National Champions the Crimson Tide will likely get every team’s best shot. When I look at their schedule I see the key date being October 2nd when they get the Florida Gators at home. This is a match up of the last two national title winners, and may just prove which of these two programs will make another run at the BCS title in 2010.

This team’s next big thing is OT DJ Fluker. A smash mouth tackle is critical to the Alabama power running game. Fluker has a big time pedigree as the nations top college recruit from two years ago. NFL scouts are sure to be all over Junior WR Julio Jones. He has sure fire NFL ability and will get a chance to display that as he enters 2010 finally being healthy.

Head Coach Nick Saban has led his team through a hard hitting spring. He has installed a mindset that the 2009 title was the goal, not a surprise that just happened to this team. He still has a core set of veterans to lean on, but will expect his younger players to step up and make an impact.
