Demi Lovato Opens Up About Father’s Death [Video]
Demi Lovato has been relatively quiet since her father Patrick passed away last week.
Other than a Tweet to thank her fans for their support the singer hasn’t commented on her dad’s passing. Well, that changed this morning when Lovato appeared on Good Morning America.
Lovato didn’t have the greatest relationship with her father. Patrick left the family when she was a little girl and they didn’t talk much in the last years of his life.
Lovato said: “I’m handling it okay. My father and I didn’t have the most ideal relationship, but at the end of the day he’s still my dad. It’s difficult. I grew up with him and he’s a wonderful person, but I’m handling it okay.”
Lovato, who has had plenty of her own struggles, said that her father Patrick also deal with psychological issues. The singer said that she was starting a scholarship, called the Lovato Treatment Scholarship, to help people with mental illness.
Lovato said: “My father dealt with mental illnesses and he wasn’t able to function in society and that happens to a lot of people… I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.”
Here’s a video of Demi Lotato talking about her father’s death on Good Morning America.
