Sam Mendes Still In Talks For ‘James Bond 24’

Sam Mendes still isn’t sure if he’ll return for James Bond 24.

The acclaimed director famously said he was done with the franchise following the release of Skyfall. The film reportedly left the filmmaker feeling emotionally and physically exhausted.

Despite his proclamation, Sam Mendes is currently being wooed back to the series by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Although rumors and reports have suggested he’s already on-board for the project, the director is still weighing his options.

During the premiere of the stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sam Mendes revealed that he hasn’t come to a decision about the project just yet.

“In answer to the question you’re going to ask, I don’t know yet. I’m in discussion over the ‘B’ word and I won’t make any decision until [‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’] is open. It’s taken a long time to get this open and this has been my focus,” he told the folks at Hey U Guys.

For fans of Skyfall, the fact that Sam Mendes is still considering James Bond 24 is certainly good news. In this writer’s humble opinion, the director’s entry in the long-running franchise was nothing short of fantastic. Here’s hoping Mendes seriously considers coming back for more.

During his chat with Empire earlier this year, Mendes said it was becoming increasingly difficult to say no to Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson’s offer.

“Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ and ‘King Lear,’ they need my complete focus over the next year and beyond,” he explained to the publication.

Mendes added, “I feel very honored to have been part of the Bond family and very much hope I have a chance to work with them again sometime in the future.”
