PlayStation 3 getting more high-def remakes of PS2 hits

Sony has revealed that more high-definition versions of classic PS2 games are on the way for PlayStation 3. Last year, the company released God of War Collection, containing the first two God of War games with fancypants HD graphics.

This remake sold well, and at E3 2010 Sony announced The Sly Collection for PS3, including all three Sly Cooper PS2 titles in high resolution; it even comes with 3D, Move, and trophy support. And that won’t be the end of it!

“Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year,” said Sony big cheese Shuhei Yoshida to IGN. “There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they’d like to see.”

“So we are looking to continue to do these HD conversions,” he added. And why not? These are, after all, easy money for Sony.

Meanwhile, those gamers holding out for a PS3 remake of the epic Shadow of the Colossus (above) and its equally brilliant predecessor Ico may not have to wait much longer. VG247 spotted a listing for Team ICO Collection on Amazon France. Hopefully that’s on the money, because seeing Shadow of the Colossus with a steady frame-rate will be worth the admission alone.
